Did you know God outlined a Welfare System in the Bible?
He did . . . and I didn't know it until just this morning.
I've read the Bible cover-to-cover 7 times, and now working on my 8th trip through it's inspired pages, and every time I find something I didn't see before. This time I discovered that God created, and in fact, ordered a welfare system to be put in place.
It's in Deuteronomy 14:28-29.
At the end of every third year you shall bring out the tithe of your produce of that year and store it up within your gates. And the Levite, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you, and the stranger and the fatherless and the widow who are within your gates, may come and eat and be satisfied, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.
Notice God specified the tithe is to be brought. He didn't say the tithe plus some other amount. He didn't say some other amount besides the tithe. He said, the tithe itself.
By the way, governments don't pay tithes; only ordinary, non-government, individual people pay tithes. So this is a private welfare system, not a governmental one.
Every third year, we're to take our tithes for that year and put them aside for the poor (the stranger, fatherless, widows, etc.) instead of bringing them to church. God will then bless us and all the work we do.
The moment we let government create a welfare state and take over the works of charity outlined in God's Word, is the moment we started turning our backs on Him.
The true Christian – and observant Jew – must reject government welfare and return to Biblical principles if we want God's blessings on our work.
