American Harlotry

America is in trouble. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. From abortion to “transgenderism” and everything in-between, we've turned away from our constitutional foundations, upended all the old ways that worked so well in creating this mighty nation, and, worst of all, rejected God from being the God of America.

There are still pockets of belief here and there; the Bible Belt mainly, as well as a few other areas scattered around the land, but that's about it. Where once Christianity was the fabric that held us together and the Bible was esteemed as the basis for our laws and the source of our generosity to those in need; now faith in Jesus has become a punch line and the Bible is derided as “hate speech” in print. The lonely candles are going out one-by-one and darkness is falling.

So this morning I was reading Ezekiel chapter 16 and some of the verses fairly leapt off the page at me. Read the ones I've highlighted below and see if they don't express what's been happening in America in recent years, particularly the payments we make (welfare, food stamps, etc.) to foreigners.

Ezekiel 16:14 – “Your fame went out among the nations because of your beauty, for it was perfect through My splendor which I had bestowed on you,” says the Lord God.

Ezekiel 16:15 – “But you trusted in your own beauty, played the harlot because of your fame, and poured out your harlotry on everyone passing by who would have it.”

Ezekiel 16:30 – “How degenerate is your heart!” says the Lord God, “seeing you do all these things, the deeds of a brazen harlot.”

Ezekiel 16:33 – “Men make payment to all harlots, but you made your payments to all your lovers, and hired them to come to you from all around for your harlotry.”

Ezekiel 16:34 – “You are the opposite of other women in your harlotry, because no one solicited you to be a harlot. In that you gave payment but no payment was given you, therefore you are the opposite.”

There are other verses in the Book of Ezekiel that apply to America today – there are other verses throughout the whole Bible that apply! – but this is where I was reading this morning, and these verses fairly grabbed me by the throat.

The thing I kept thinking as I was reading them was: God punished His Chosen People with death, destruction and 70 years of exile for doing these things. What will He do to us who are not His Chosen People? Christians individually are grafted onto the stock of Abraham, but America as a whole most emphatically . . . isn't.

It was Thomas Jefferson, in 1785, writing to denounce slavery who said, “Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just: that his justice cannot sleep forever.”

America is past the point of no return and God's justice is coming. It's time for the faithful remnant to assembly themselves together for safety – in Texas perhaps – to form a new nation dedicated to God and His glory. Hurricane Harvey will drive out the unbelievers and those weak in their faith, leaving room for the mighty men of God to come here with their families.

We're ready for you!
